Chiropractic Neck Manipulation Causes Harm

Many Consumers are Unaware that Chiropractor Neck Manipulation Causes Harm

With the increased interest in "holistic" health care and "wellness" care, consumers seek alternatives to conventional medical treatments and also look for therapies to maintain their good health. Chiropractors offer and advertise these services.

Many Stroke Victims Fail to Recognize the Correlation

Unfortunately, one chiropractic procedure above all carries a real and present danger for severe injury and even death. Neck manipulation, sometimes called upper cervical adjustment, has long been associated with strokes caused by injury to the blood vessels that supply the brain.

The incidence of this injury is under-reported because many victims never associate their chiropractic treatment with the strokes that may follow up to several weeks later. Additionally, there is no formal reporting process in place for such an event.

Chiropractic Stroke Awareness Organization is dedicated to understanding, evaluating and researching the risks of stroke induced by chiropractic upper cervical manipulation. Contact us to learn how you can join us in our quest to raise awareness and increase knowledge about this issue.

Often, the risk of stroke from a chiropractic neck manipulation isn't even a consideration for those who suffer a chiropractic-induced stroke. The same is true for their families.

Relatives might not even know that their loved one who has suffered a stroke was receiving chiropractic treatments — and even if they do, they are not likely to know of the stroke risk.

The stroke victim herself may be unable to speak for some time and explain to treating physicians what types of chiropractic treatments she had received, and when. (A majority of stroke victims who had received upper manipulations within 30 days have been female — often young, healthy and in the prime of life. Many sought chiropractic treatments as preventive "holistic" wellness care.)

Stroke Victims' Long-Term Outlooks Vary Greatly

Stroke victims have been paralyzed or died from upper cervical manipulation and the strokes that ensue. Others live with a greatly diminished capacity and quality of life. If you or someone you know suffered a stroke within 30 days of receiving upper cervical manipulation, or if you are a lawyer, a physician, a family member or a researcher interested in this issue, we hope to hear from you. Contact Chiropractic Stroke Awareness Organization to inquire about how you can participate in our quest.

We welcome the participation of chiropractors, doctors, lawyers and other interested professionals, including physical therapists and psychological counselors.
