Chiropractic Upper Cervical Manipulation

Stroke and deaths caused by chiropractic neck manipulations have been reported in medical journals since 1947. Some chiropractic organizations defend their therapy and design studies to obscure the connection.

When medical professionals tried to intervene, chiropractors responded by suing the medical associations for obstructing free trade and fair competition. The federal court agreed but found "alarming practices by some chiropractors," while noting that the dominant reason why the medical association acted was for "patient care" and upon their belief that "chiropractic was not in the best interests of patients."* Despite this warning of questionable practices, chiropractors continue upper cervical manipulations while their unsuspecting patients suffer the harmful consequences.

The incidence of stroke is widely believed to be under-reported. As new chiropractors enter the workforce and more consumers of "wellness care" seek alternative therapy, the number of patients suffering stokes is rising, particularly in people not at risk for stroke but who do use chiropractic services.

Our Mission is three-fold

Our primary mission is to raise public awareness so that fewer people will suffer strokes caused by an excessively risky form of chiropractic treatment. We also provide a sanctuary for persons affected by chiropractic stroke, an online space to share experiences and help each other. By bringing people together, we intend to build a medical records database showing the connection between stroke diagnosis and certain forms of recent chiropractic treatment. See our Mission Page for a fuller account of these goals.

We are grateful that you are taking the time to consider what we have to share about Chiropractic Stroke Awareness Organization. We are an organization with national and international reach, dedicated to understanding, evaluating and researching the risks of stroke induced by chiropractic upper cervical manipulation.

Our fundamental goal with our organization and this Web site is to bring together information that will be conducive to research and investigation — specifically as follows:

  • Promoting awareness of strokes caused by chiropractic treatment

  • Examining the relationship of stroke occurrence and recent chiropractic care
